Review | All action on Day 1 of the National Schools Championships

Schools from across the UK descended on Hampshire for the opening day of the 2025 National Schools Lacrosse Championships as our Under 19 Championship competitions began.

The Championships got underway under glorious blue skies at Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, and the action on the field did not disappoint either.

After much anticipation, the games roared into action with hundreds of the best young lacrosse players in the country taking to the fields for pool play matches to earn their positioning for Sunday’s placing games and knockouts.

Across a day of full throttle action, five teams set the early pace by completing Day 1 with a 100% record to take into tomorrow’s Championship bracket.

Last year’s beaten finalists and Challenge Cup winners Godolphin made clear their intentions to go one better this time around with a perfect opening day’s performance scoring 33 and conceding just six across their five matches.

St Swithun’s, Berkhamsted, St Catherine’s, and Lady Eleanor Holles also go into tomorrow with a 100% winning record, LEH downing last year’s winners Moreton Hall in a tight 6-4 contest.

Claremont Fan Court and Guildford High are both not far behind either, holding unbeaten records with just one draw in pool play and will also be teams to look out for in the Top 16 Championship bracket.

In the U19B competition, our three 100% record frontrunners are St George’s Harpenden, Putney High and St Catherine’s, while Moreton Hall also went the day’s play undefeated.

However, everything is still all to play for on Sunday, and with our Divisional finals in addition to the Championship groups, all teams still have the chance of winning silverware.

Day 2 of the Championships begins tomorrow at 9am with the knockouts getting underway from 1pm before our finals later in the afternoon.
